The Supreme Court ordered to remove Anurag Thakur from the post of BCCI President over not complying with court orders. The apex court also removed Ajay Shirke from the post of BCCI Secretary.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur, stated that the BCCI and state board officials failed to implement its orders to bring transparency and accountability in cricket body and hence ordered the removal.
“As per July 18, 2016 order, these two officials (Thakur and Shirke) did not comply with its order and thereby been removed,” ANI quotes the Court as saying.
“The BCCI and state board officials failed to implement its orders to bring transparency and accountability in cricket body,” the Court added.
The order comes after Lodha Committee’s third status report which was submitted on November 14, asking for the disqualification of office-bearers of the BCCI and all state associations. The SC intends to replace top brass of BCCI with panel of administrators. The court has sought new names for the same. The next hearing will be on January 19.
