Suriya is known for experimenting with his roles in films. He is one of the actors, who often walk those extra miles to do justice to the character he portrays. Suriya was last seen in ‘Jai Bhim’, and the film received highly positive reviews from audiences and critics. Suriya played the role of a lawyer for the first time, and his role is based on the real-life character, Justice K Chandru. ETimes reached out to Suriya and in an exclusive chat he revealed how he got trained for his character in ‘Jai Bhim’.

“It was a great experience working on the film,” reveals Suriya. He further added how he got into the skin of his character of K Chandru, “I first met Chandru sir at an event, but at that time I didn’t know I would be doing a film based on him. It’s TJ Gnanavel, who pitched the idea of doing a film on Chandru sir, and Gnanavel was part of my NGO in the past. I developed my character by reading books on Chandru sir, and the case narrated in ‘Jai Bhim’ is a remarkable one.”

‘Jai Bhim’ is one of the rarest Tamil films to have a high court set, and the courtroom drama has hit the target as planned. ‘Jai Bhim’ landed in controversy for its few scenes, and it also received support from fans and cinema stars. The film, which is directed by TJ Gnanavel, has been selected as the official entry for the Golden Globe awards 2022.
