ATamil Nadu policeman, identified as Alexander, was shunted out of regular police duty after he was caught on camera threatening a shop owner in Tirupur. He was transferred to the Armed Reserve Unit. An internal probe has been ordered against him.

Alexander is accused of harassing a shop-owner, identified as Jaffer, in Muthanampalayam area. He owns a cellphone shop on Avinashi Road.

Jaffer had a quarrel with another shop-owner who took up a space near his shop. This blocked the way for bike parking near Jaffer’s shop.

Meanwhile, Alexander, a constable attached with Veerapandi police station, barged into Jaffer’s shop and threatened him on Monday.

Alexander accused Jaffer of taking videos when he was having food at the shop. Jaffer denied making videos of Alexander. He said his shop was under CCTV surveillance.

Alexander was then caught verbally threatening Jaffer on CCTV. “I will make sure that you are not able to run your shop here. Let’s see who comes to your shop,” said Alexander.

Jaffer uploaded the video to his Facebook page. As the video went viral, Alexander was transferred to the Armed Reserves Unit of the Tamil Nadu Police and a departmental inquiry was ordered.
