Ads can be annoying, especially if you are getting them on a messaging app. Telegram is now looking for ways to let users disable ads on the messaging app. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced on its channel that Telegram is working on a subscription model that will let users disable ads on the messaging app. He didn’t reveal the pricing of the service but said that it will be “an inexpensive subscription”.

Announcing the feature, Durov said, “We have already started work on this new feature and look forward to launching it this month. It can be issued in the form of an inexpensive subscription, which will allow any user to directly financially support the development of Telegram and never see official advertisements in the channels.”

The new subscription service would allow to “turn off” advertisements in their channels for all users. Durov revealed that the company is calculating the economic conditions for this option. “Advertisers will soon be able to place an “invisible” ad on any channel that assuming there is sufficient cost per impression will result in no ads on that channel. We will continue to work on features that will allow Telegram to break even. The interests of users and content authors will remain our priority in this process,” he said.

Durov revealed that the plans are still under development and nothing has been finalised yet.

It is important to note that sponsored messages on Telegram are displayed in large public one-to-many channels with 1000+ subscribers and are limited to 160 characters. It is based solely on the topic of the public channels in which they are shown. However, displaying ads doesn’t mean that Telegram has any access to your chats. Telegram has said that no user data is mined or analyzed to display ads, and every user viewing a particular channel on Telegram sees the same sponsored messages.

On a related note, the messaging app has launched a couple of features including hyper-speed scrolling, calendar view, date bar, admin approval setting for invite links, chat themes and more
