WhatsApp has added new updates to its payments feature. The WhatsApp users in India will now be able to add payments background while sending money to their friends from the app. The feature is exclusively built for Indian users only. The Facebook-owned messaging app says that the feature will help people in conveying a feeling along with sending money.

WhatsApp’s payments background feature looks a lot like Google Pay’s payments background feature. In Gpay, you can add different backgrounds from the option provided by the company while sending money. You will now be able to do similar things on WhatsApp. Notably, the messaging app had first rolled out the payments feature in India in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The real-time payment system enables transactions with over 227 banks.

Speaking about the feature, Manesh Mahatme, Director of WhatsApp Payments said, “WhatsApp is a safe space where people share their thoughts and feelings with their friends and family. With Payments Backgrounds, our effort is to bring excitement to everyday payments through WhatsApp and enable our users to express themselves if they wish, through a range of emotive themes denoting celebrations, affection, warmth or fun. We believe that sending and receiving money is so much more than just a transaction. Often it’s the stories behind the exchanges that are priceless. We look forward to creating more features and functionalities and continue making payments on WhatsApp an interesting and interactive experience.”

For instance, if you are sending money to your sister on Rakshabandhan, you can add a Rakshabandhan pavements background while sending the money. Similarly, for birthdays, you get to choose from payments backgrounds with cakes and candles. The new feature, which is has been announced by WhatsApp, helps in bringing alive the story behind every payment. This would also help the receiver and sender in remembering the payments made which they might otherwise forget.

Here is how you can add the feature:-

— Tap on the chat you would like to send the money to.

— Enter the amount you want to send to the contact

— Tap on the background icon

— Scroll through the available options and tap the background you want to use.

— To return to your payment message, tap the payment amount or tap X to dismiss the background options.

Notably, you can change the amount or enter a description even after you have added a background. Adding a background would not affect your chat.
