Cricket and cinema are an inseparable part of one’s life in India. In Chennai, fans of Chennai Super Kings celebrate the players as their own especially those who have played for the team for several years. West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo is one such player, who enjoys a great fan following in Chennai.

Today (October 7) is Dwayne Bravo’s birthday. Dwayne Bravo is no less than a movie star. Apart from smashing sixes and taking wickets for Chennai Super Kings, he entertains the audience by singing and dancing on the cricket field. In short, he is as big an entertainer as any film star.

In this week’s Throwback Thursday, let us take a look at the time when Dwayne Bravo sang a Tamil song, titled Yen Da, for the film Chithiram Pesuthadi 2.

Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 was earlier titled Ula. However, the makers had changed the title due to reasons best known to them. The makers of Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 decided to rope in cricketer Dwayne Bravo to sing a Tamil song. Many netizens know that Dwayne Bravo is a singer.

In an earlier interview, director Rajan Madhav had said, “Dwyane was very generous to say yes to the song instantaneously. Our producer approached him through a common friend. He is known for his freestyle dancing and we want to capitalise on it. Show him the way the audiences would love to see him on screen.”

Dwayne Bravo wore a purple silk shirt and a dhoti for the song, titled Yen Da. The song, composed Sajan Madhav, had vocals by Gaana Bala, Naveen Madhav and Dwayne Bravo.

Speaking at the press conference, Dwayne Bravo had said, “It’s a great pleasure to be here. It’s a great opportunity to involve in something different. I enjoy playing for Chennai Super Kings and have developed a great fan base over the years. I am very blessed and lucky to be a part of the project.”

Bravo had also said that India and West Indies are culturally similar. “Chennai makes me feel that I’m home. Looking forward to meeting new people, dance and entertain the audience. This is the beginning of great things to come. I’ve always wanted to sing in films and today my dream has been fulfilled,” he added.

Bravo had also revealed that he excitedly told Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay and CSK manager Russel Radhakrishnan about him singing in Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 when the opportunity came to him.
