There are a few love stories that remain unfinished and whenever shared break the heart of listeners. Late actress Parveen Babi was considered one of the brightest stars of the Hindi film industry but her mental illness overshadowed everything and she was left with nothing. Not just her professional life, even her personal life was very much discussed and it was all about issues and men claiming to be a part of her life.

During the 1970s and early 1980s, the only thing that was discussed was Parveen Babi’s love affairs. For the uninitiated, Parveen was in a relationship with three people, actors Kabir Bedi, Danny Denzongpa, and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. The late actress was open about her love and never shied away from talking about them. All the three affairs of Parveen were highly discussed and the one that caught everyone’s attention was with Mahesh Bhatt.

When Mahesh and Parveen fell in love, the actress was a leading lady of the Hindi film cinema and he was a ‘flop’ filmmaker. When the two were in a relationship, Parveen was reportedly surrounded by a mental illness which was disclosed by Mahesh in various interviews. The filmmaker had left his wife and daughter Pooja Bhatt, to be with Parveen. However, things turned ugly between the two when there were rumours that Parveen was dating her co-star Amitabh Bachchan. At that point in time, when Mahesh tried to walk out of Parveen’s life and was seen leaving her house, the actress ran stark naked towards him to stop him from going. The incident was shared by Mahesh in an interview.

The incident was covered by several media publications and remains one of the turning points of Parveen’s personal life. Mahesh has termed Parveen’s illness as paranoid schizophrenia and in various interviews, he has shared incidents, when the actress had thoughts that somebody is trying to kill her.

He once recalled an incident, when he found Parveen with a knife in her hands and saying that they have been bugged and someone is trying to kill her.

It was on January 22, 2005, when Parveen was found dead at her apartment. Many reports claimed that the actress committed suicide, but nothing was confirmed. Though Parveen wanted to be buried as per Christian rites, the actress’ body was collected by her family members and she was buried at Juhu Muslim cemetery in Santacruz, Mumbai. Her funeral was attended by Mahesh Bhatt, Danny Denzongpa, and Kabir Bedi.
