Aday after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called his Punjab counterpart ‘a fake Kejriwal’, the war of words continues between the two chief ministers over the definition of ‘aam aadmi’.

“In Punjab, a fake Kejriwal is roaming. Whatever I promise here, he repeats the same. In the entire country, only one man, Kejriwal, can bring your electricity bill to zero. So beware of that fake Kejriwal,” Arvind Kejriwal said while addressing a public gathering in Punjab’s Moga district on Monday.

Arvind Kejriwal and Charanjit Singh Channi have been trying to prove themselves as the real Aam Aadmi for quite sometime now with eyes on the Punjab Assembly Election next year.

The spat began when Channi criticised Kejriwal’s clothes. He asked why cannot Kejriwal get good clothes stitched for himself when he gets paid the highest salary?

To which Kejriwal said, “It’s okay if you don’t like my clothes. But they are liked by the people. Leave the clothes, just tell the people when you will fulfill your election promises?”

Channi also asked if Kejriwal knew how to milk buffalos or play ‘gilli danda’ game.

“I have slept in a mud house. I know how to deal with the scorching sun by using a wet cloth and how to milk a buffalo,” Channi said.

Charanjit Channi also reacted sharply while addressing people in Ludhiana and dubbed Arvind Kejriwal an outsider.

“Punjab is not a barren land. People know who a is Punjab and who is an outsider. They do not require Arvind Kejriwal’s mission Punjab, “Charanjit Channi said.

Both Channi and Kejriwal were seen reaching out to the ‘rikshawalas’ and ‘Rehariwalas’ in Ludhiana on Monday.

Aam Aadmi party leaders have alleged that Kejriwal’s program to meet the auto-rickshaw drivers was already fixed but Channi tried to hijack it.

While Charanjit Channi sipped tea with auto-rickshaw drivers on the road, Arvind Kejriwal dined with the family of a rickshaw driver at his home.

The war of words between Channai and Kejriwal escalated further after Congress started poaching AAP leaders, including Bathinda rural MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby, who recently joined Congress. This was a big shock as three party MLAs had already joined the Congress.

Much like the AAP, Charanjit Singh has also banked on the Pani-bijali-rozgar promises for the upcoming polls.

His strategy also includes announcements on free electricity, allotment of land to the poor, slashing of power and water bills and filling-up vacancies in various government departments.
