The ICC World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand has been marred by rain and bad weather in Southampton on all three days so far and the forecast for Monday doesn’t look good either.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rain has delayed the start of play on Day 4 between India and New Zealand
  • New Zealand will resume on their overnight score of 101 for 3 whenever play resumes
  • Only 141.1 overs out of the stipulated 180 have been bowled in the match so far

New Zealand cricketers are passing their time playing Table Tennis inside their dressing room even as rain continues to play spoilsport in Southampton on Day 4 of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

Rain delayed the start of play with New Zealand set to resume on their overnight score of 101 for 3. The Black Caps trail India by 116 runs after bowling out the opposition for 217 thanks to Kyle Jamieson’s five-wicket haul.

But Jamieson right now is keeping himself busy with some table tennis with his teammates as the wait continues for play to start on Monday.

“Wet weather has returned to the Hampshire Bowl so it’s table tennis for now,” New Zealand cricket posted on social media along with a picture of Jamieson playing TT with another player.

Only 141.1 overs out of the stipulated 180 have been bowled in the match so far, with rain washing out the entire opening day’s play on Friday and interrupting play over the weekend.

WTC FINAL LIVE UPDATES

“Rain has delayed the start of day four of the #WTC21 Final in Southampton,” the governing International Cricket Council said in a tweet on Monday.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, batting on 12, and Ross Taylor, who is yet to score, will be looking to push for a significant first-innings lead when play starts on Monday.

The weather-hit match in southern England has a reserve day to make up for lost time.

As per the United Kingdom Met department it will be cloudy throughout Monday with heavy showers continuing to push northwards. Showers will become lighter late afternoon but the cloud covers will remain.

Notably, India and New Zealand will be declared joint-winners of the WTC and the $1.6 million prize money will also be shared by both sides if the match is washed out, abandoned or ends in a draw or a tie.
