On Tuesday Dubai experienced a very heavy rainfall . The runway of the Dubai International Airport was submerged making it look like an ocean . Roads were appearing like rivers , overflowing with water. The homes were inundated and for nearly half an hour the airport halted flight operations. In just 12 hours on tuesday , airport approximately received 100 mm of rain and in 24 hours , a total of 160mm was received. In a year Dubai city records about 88.9 mm of rain . On Wednesday morning Dubai International airport asked travellers to check their flight status . They were told to set extra travel time . Large passenger jets were moving along the flooded runway like boats. Dubai flights were either cancelled or delayed with affected destinations like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India and United kingdom. Reuters News agency quoted an airlines spokesperson as saying “All flydubai flights scheduled for departure from Dubai this evening (16 April) have been cancelled effective immediately until 10:00 (Dubai local time) on 17 April. During this period, passengers who do not have Dubai as their final destination will not be accepted for travel .” A weather warning has been issued to large parts of the country like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
