The viral hepatitis deaths are 1.3 million deaths per year .  A new data from 187 countries has been gathered by the WHO 2024 Global  hepatitis report that states the estimated number of deaths from viral hepatitis increased from 1.1 million in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2022. Of the whole lot ,17 percent were caused by hepatitis C and 83 percent were by hepatitis B. World Hepatitis summit reported “Every day, there are 3,500 people dying globally due to hepatitis B and C infections .”  Two thirds of the global burden of hepatitis B and C is on the countries like Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia and Vietnam. UN Health agency said universal access with diagnosis and treatment is required in these ten countries by 2025 to put things back on track. WHO director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “This report paints a troubling picture: despite progress globally in preventing hepatitis infections, deaths are rising because far too few people with hepatitis are being diagnosed and treated.” In 2022 as per WHO estimates the updated ones is 50 million people lived with Hepatitis C and 254 million people lived with Hepatitis B. 12% of the infection is with children under 18 years of age.
