Kolkata Knight Riders Opener Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League, KKR confirmed on Tuesday, 17 May. Rahane, who was seen limping heavily in Kolkata’s last game against SunRisers Hyderabad got out after scoring 28 off 24 balls. At a point of time, it seemed that he was just not able to move his left leg and kept hopping to change the ends of the pitch.

The former Indian Test team vice captain was picked up in the IPL Auctions in February 2022 as Kolkata’s first choice opener. His performance was not that fruitful in a forgetful season for the Kolkata-based franchise.

Kolkata Knight Riders posted a video on their social media account about the departure of Rahane where Brendon McCullum can be seen informing the team that the veteran batsman has torn his tendon.

Before leaving the camp Rahane said that he enjoyed his time at KKR and wished his teammates all the best for the upcoming games.

“Guys, I really enjoyed my time on and off the field with everyone. Learnt a lot as a cricketer, about life and about everything. Just want to thank all the players, the support staff, Venky sir, management people for all your help and support. I’ll definitely come back stronger next year. I’m sure we will do well in the next games and hopefully we will go to Kolkata and the playoffs.” Rahane signed off from the season.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 103 runs from 7 matches for KKR. Majority of his runs came at the top of the order, with highest being 44 against Chennai Super Kings.

The tendon injury possibly also rule out Rahane from India’s postponed Test match against England. In his place, the likes of Shreyas Iyer might act as a replacement.
