Poco will reportedly launch a new smartphone, dubbed Poco M5 4G in India “as early as next month”. According to 91Mobiles, citing industry sources, the new Poco M-series smartphone packs a MediaTek G99 chipset that is yet to feature in more mainstream budget smartphones. The report further highlights that the Poco M5 4G will be priced under Rs 15,000 in India. However, it could be for the base model, while the 128GB variant could cost above Rs 15,000.

In terms of specifications, the Poco M5 4G is expected to come with a 6.58-inch FHD+ display, which is fairly big and common when we look at competitions in this range. Instead of an AMOLED panel, it might include an LCD panel with a high refresh rate. The report highlights that the smartphone might retain its chic-leather-like back design to attract both young and older customers.

Other features expected include Android 12 OS, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security, dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and at least a 6GB RAM option. As mentioned, the Poco M5 4G will reportedly be powered by the MediaTek G99 SoC.

The chipset maker, MediaTek, claims the G99 is designed to boost gaming performance on affordable smartphones. It is based on a 6nm process and supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The octa-core processor also gets UFS 2.2 and LPDDR4X RAM tech support. Therefore, we can expect the rumoured Poco smartphone to borrow some of these specifications. Readers must note that Poco is yet to confirm the development, and it is advised to take the information with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile, Poco already offers a bunch of affordable options in the country. It already offers two devices under the Poco M series. The Poco M4 5G costs Rs 10,999, while the Pro variant costs Rs 11,999.
