Tamil cinema keeps evolving every year, and every newcomer paints something new with this craft called cinema. The trend in scripting and the process of making a film keeps changing over time. 

The latest trend in Tamil cinema is to make films that involve a lot of technological advancements, and all the new directors pen their script based upon that. The magic of cinema is that our actors also fit in the role of a tech geek so well. 

These are some of the films in Kollywood that showed or heroes as tech geeks or scientists who are capable of hacking and playing with the latest technologies. 

Rajinikanth – Enthiran 

Enthiran was an out-of-the-world fantasy story in which actor Rajinikanth played the role of a scientist who creates a humanoid robot named Chitti. He speaks about a lot of things like Neutral Schema, Artificial Intelligence, and a lot of other scientific factors. The film mostly deals with science and technology. Rajini would have excelled both as scientist Vaseegaran and the humanoid robot Chitti. 

Kamal – Unnai Pol Oruvan 

Kamal and technology are something that we can never separate. Leaving out his off-screen contributions, the actor had spoken about a lot of technologies in various films. Even in Vishwaroopam, he speaks about atomic radiation and stuff. In Dasavatharam is a scientist. But Unnai Pol Oruvan is a film in which a common man with some knowledge about various technologies. He evades the police from tracing him and does a lot of geeky jobs to accomplish his mission. 

Arya – Aarambam 

In Ajith’s Aarambam, Arya appears as a hacker. Along with Arya’s support, Ajith hacks the villain’s bank account and transfers all the black money to his account. Arya does a lot of system hacks throughout the film to help Ajith achieve his mission. That particular scene where Arya enters a bank in the guise of a service engineer, opening an account so that Ajith can transfer all of the villain’s money into his account, is the most thrilling scene in the film. 

Suriya –  24

Suriya had a tripal role in 24, in which one of the characters is a scientist and watchmaker. He designs a time travel watch that can travel back and forth in time for a maximum of 24 hours. Though that character dies at the beginning of the film, he is so significant to drive this story. Suriya did all three roles extremely well and received the Critics Best Actor Award at the 64th Filmfare Awards. 

Nakkhul – Tamilukku En Ondrai Aluthavum 

Actor Nakkuhl’s performance as a geeky boy next door in this film Tamilukku En Ondrai Aluthavum registered him as a good actor in Tamil cinema. In this film, he is a hyperactive science geek who is on a mission to activate a dead mobile network signal. He speaks a lot about cellphone signal transmission and a lot of other scientific factors throughout the film.

Jiiva – Kee

Actor Jiiva appears as a hacker in this techno-thriller film. The film began production log back but got released too late in time and received negative reviews. The movie involves a lot of cell phone hacks and system hacks. Jiiva is portrayed as a professional hacker who is the only one who can hack the illegal hacking system of our villain in the film. 

Dulquer Salmaan – Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal

Dulquer Salmaan appears as the coolest hacker in Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal. He and his friend Kaliswaran Moorthy (Rakshan) are freelance techies working from home. Their part-time hobby is involving in online shopping scams to earn money.
