The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on November 16 predicted extremely heavy falls for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 18.

The IMD forecast indicated that a low-pressure area lying over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to move nearly westwards and reach west-central and adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh-north Tamilnadu coasts on November 18.

Another low-pressure area persists over east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 48 hours.

A trough runs from the cyclonic circulation associated with a low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast to north Konkan across south Maharashtra-Goa coasts at lower tropospheric levels, IMD said.

Another trough runs from the cyclonic circulation associated with a low-pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast to the low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal at lower and middle tropospheric levels.

Rainfall warning:

IMD predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 5 days and over Rayalaseema during the next 3 days.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 17 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls likely over north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 18.

Wind warning:

Bay of Bengal: Strong winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over south-east and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea on November 16 and over Westcentral and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, along and off south Andhra Pradesh-north Tamil Nadu coasts on November 17 and 18.

Arabian Sea: Strong winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over east-central and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea along and off north Kerala-Karnataka-Goa coasts on November 16; over east-central Arabian Sea along and off Maharashtra coast on November 17; over east-central Arabian Sea on November 18 and over Central and adjoining North Arabian Sea on November 19.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the above areas.
