Royal Challengers Bangalore set a series of new records as they hammered Mumbai Indians by a mammoth margin of 54 runs in Match 39 of IPL 2021 in Dubai on Sunday. Virat Kohli’s men looked pumped up as they ended their 7-match losing streak in the UAE to be back on track for the play-offs race.

Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 165 for 6 despite two brilliant overs at the death from Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult who gave away just 9 runs in the last 2 overs. Just when it looked like Mumbai Indians would breeze through to the target after a strong start from Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, wickets fell in quick succession.

IPL 2021: Points Table

Mumbai Indians’ middle-order, which has been suspect in IPL 2021, failed to step up as the likes of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya failed to get going. All-rounder Hardik struggled to put bat to ball after not bowling even a single over on his return to the XI following his absence in the first two games.

Yuzvendra Chahal ran riot, picking up 3 wickets while Harshal Patel picked up his maiden career-hat-trick, breaking the back of Mumbai Indians’ lower middle-order, removing Hardik, Pollard and Chahar in a span of 3 balls.

It was Virat Kohli’s fifty and Glenn Maxwell’s all-round effort that sealed the deal for RCB, who retained their 3rd spot on the IPL 2021 points table.

Indiatoday.in takes a look at some numbers from RCB’s hammering of MI in Dubai on Sunday.

54 – This is the 2nd biggest margin of defeat in terms of runs for Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the IPL. Their biggest under Rohit’s leadership came in 2016 — an 85-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

111/10 – Sunday was the first time RCB had bowled out Mumbai Indians in the history of IPL.

2-0 – This is the first time RCB have completed a double over MI in the IPL — won both the league games against the 5-time champions.

9 – Harshal Patel has picked up 9 wickets against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 — 5/27 and 4/17. Only Dwayne Bravo (10) has taken more wickets against MI in the same season.

23* – Harshal Patel’s tally of 23 is the joint-most wickets by an uncapped player in the IPL. Yuzvendra Chahal had also taken 23 wickets before he made his India debut for RCB in 2015. Harshal has an opportunity to set a new record.Live TV
