Ayellow alert has been issued in 8 Kerala districts for Tuesday, following heavy rain. Schools will remain shut in four districts.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod and Kozhikode districts for Tuesday.

All educational institutions will remain shut on Tuesday in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Alappuzha districts. Kerala University and MG University have cancelled their exams scheduled for Tuesday.

Kerala has been receiving incessant rain over the weekend, prompting authorities to ask residents to stay alert. The incessant downpours over the weekend has led to waterlogging in several parts of the state. Several areas of Kerala’s Upper Kuttanad are heavily waterlogged.

Two toddlers died in separate rain-related incidents in Kerala as incessant rain battered the state over the last weekend. Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had cautioned about the possibility of landslides and flooding.
