Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has ended its Maharashtra leg and is all set to enter the Hindi heartland of Madhya Pradesh on November 23. According to senior party leader Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join the yatra and will participate for four days when it enters Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur.

This is for the first time that Priyanka Gandhi will join the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Earlier, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi had participated in the yatra in Karnataka.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter and said today is a rest day for the Yatra which will resume on Wednesday when it will enter Madhya Pradesh near Burhanpur.

“Priyanka Gandhi will join the Yatra there and participate for four days,” the Congress general secretary in-charge, communications said in his tweet in Hindi.

Sources close to Madhya Pradesh Congress have said that Priyanka Gandhi will land in Madhya Pradesh on November 23, but will join the yatra from November 24.

Starting from Burhanpur, the Bharat Jodo Yatra will move towards other districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Khandwa, Mhow, Indore and Ujjain before entering Rajasthan on December 5.

Sources close to the Madhya Pradesh Congress have said that Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit two Jyotirlinga Mahadev temples – Omkareshwar in Khandwa and Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar.

The Wayanad MP is likely to visit the birthplace of Tantia Mama, who is also known as the Robinhood of India.

While Rahul Gandhi will be holding a press conference on November 29 in Indore, Congress is even planning for a mega show of strength in Ujjain between November 30 to December 1.

According to Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders, the significance of the Bharat Jodo Yatra can be understood from the fact that it crosses from the Nimad-Malwa belt. “This belt decides the fate of the political parties in the state assembly election. There are 22 assembly seats which are mainly reserved for SCs and STs. We are gearing up for state assembly elections too,” said a senior MP Congress leader.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra will stay in Madhya Pradesh for almost 15 days before entering Jhalawad in Rajasthan on December 5.

Rahul Gandhi along with scores of Congress leaders and workers kickstarted the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on November 7. So far, the party has traversed through six states of the country, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.
