Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited rain-affected areas of Cuddalore district on Saturday and distributed relief materials to the needy people.

Intense showers have battered Tamil Nadu since last week, with the rain leaving a trail of destruction in several districts. As many as 14 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the state, while neighbourhoods have been flooded, and over 1,000 huts and houses have been damaged.

Meanwhile, as per alert issued by Regional Meteorological Centre at 9:16 am on Saturday, thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli districts within the next two hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Friday forecasted that heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry and south interior Karnataka during next five days.

Earlier this week, a ‘red alert’ issued for eight Tamil Nadu districts, including Chennai, was withdrawn after the depression that brought heavy rainfall on Thursday weakened at landfall.

The recent rains have inundated half of Chennai city, with the citizens battling heavy waterlogging in several areas.

CM MK Stalin visited the rain-battered districts of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram on Friday, and distributed relief materials to the rain displaced families. He also interacted with sanitary workers involved in clearing the silt in the inundated areas.

Like Chennai, both the neighbouring districts were battered by the rains which inundated several areas.
