A  Statement has been released saying that Raja Raja Cholan was not Hindu king by National award winning Tamil director Vetrimaaran . “Continuously, our symbols are being snatched from us. Saffronising Valluvar or calling Raja Raja Cholan a Hindu King is constantly occurring”, Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran said at an event . To protect one’s representation it is important to understand politics said Vetrimaaran since cinema is a common medium . Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan movie release and his comments are just a few days difference.

Based on Kalki’s fictional novel inspired by Raja Raja Cholan this movie is shot. BJP leader H Raja replied that Raja Raja Cholan was a Hindu King. “I am not not well versed with history like Vetrimaran, but let him point out two churches and mosques built by Raja Raja Cholan. He called himself Sivapadha Sekaran. Wasn’t he a Hindu then?”, questioned H Raja. Now actor Kamal Haasan has supported Vetri Maaran’s comment . “There was no name called ‘Hindu religion’ during Raja Raja Cholan’s period. There was Vainavam, Shivam and Samanam and it was the Britishers who coined the term ‘Hindu’. As they didn’t know what to say, they changed Thuthukudi into Tuticorin”, stated Makkal Neeti Maiyam party leader Kamal Haasan. During 8th century Adhishankarar created “Shanmadha Stabanam” and until then there were several religions. Kamal Haasan watched the movie with cast and crew . He said  “Let’s not exaggerate or twist history or bring language issue into this”.
