In the last ten  years Hampi  of  Karnataka a a UNESCO World Heritage Site has received the lowest number of tourists. 5000 tourists visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site per day as per Mr. Diwakar who is the Deputy Commissioner ( DC) of Hosapete. Due to scorching heat only around 150 tourists are there on weekends and it’s even less during weekdays. While speaking to the media Divakar said “Livelihoods are greatly affected for vendors, small shops and establishments. The only way to save us is if it rains for 2 days.”  In January early this year there were 25,000 visitors per day and there were 15 lakh tourists during the three day Hampi Utsav. In the southern state of Karnataka decline in rainfall has led to an intense heatwave . The rate of number of tourists coming down has made an impact on the hotel industry . The occupancy rate has come down to 30%. The owner of a popular hotel in Hosapete told India Today that  “Room occupancy has fallen to 30 per cent – 20 per cent. Out of the 200 rooms that we have, 180 rooms used to get filled. Now a pathetic 30 of them are getting occupied. The situation is really difficult for us.”
