Sunil Kumar would have never thought his wife would one day become the chief of the same Uttar Pradesh block where he has been working as a sweeper.

His wife Sonia, a member of BJP, recently took charge as the chief of Baliakheri block of Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur after securing a victory in the block chief polls held earlier this month.

Sunil, a resident of Nalhera Gujjar village, works as a sweeper in Baliakheri development block. He made his wife, Sonia, contest BDC polls from ward number 55. Sonia won the BDC election and later contested block chief polls this month.

The Baliakheri block chief post was reserved for the Schedule Caste category. BJP leader and district panchayat member Mukesh Chaudhary made 26-year-old educated Sonia a candidate for the post.

Sonia said his husband and her family supported her in the journey. She aims to work for the development of the village.Meanwhile, Sunil has decided to continue with his job. Sonia said her house still runs from the salary earned by her husband Sunil.
