A criminal case was registered against unknown persons for allegedly impersonating political strategist Prashant Kishor and reportedly using his name to incite some political leaders against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

According to police, the accused persons had been calling political leaders and public representatives over the last five to seven days, assuming the identity of Prashant Kishor, news agency ANI reported.

“These unknown caller[s] had been reportedly encouraging the politicians to make public statements against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and to criticize his leadership,” ANI quoted a police spokesperson as citing confidential sources.

The spokesperson further said these fake callers had also been assuring political leaders and others that he would take up the case with the Congress high command in Delhi, if they act on his (purportedly Kishor’s) advice.

Taking note of the incident, a criminal case under sections 416, 419, 420, 109, 120-B of the IPC and section 66-D of the IT Act 2000 has been registered against the unknown callers, said the spokesperson
