Delhi schools, colleges and other educational institutes would reopen today, on November 29, 2021, for offline classes after a short pollution break. Earlier, Delhi’s environment minister Gopal Rai had announced that the government had decided to reopen schools. Also, on November 27, 2021, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia confirmed the reopening of educational institutions through his official Tweet. However, the pollution level still remains on the higher side.

The closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutes was announced on November 13, 2021. The decision was mainly taken to avoid the exposure of students to dangerous air quality levels. The ban was initially imposed for a week. However, it was further extended due to plunging levels of the air quality index in Delhi.

The Tweet from Manish Sisodia reads, “All the Schools in Delhi will reopen from 29.11.2021 for all classes.” The heads of all the government-aided and private schools and colleges have been asked to disseminate the information to the students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders in prior. The decision to reopen schools and colleges was earlier announced on November 24, 2021 by the minister, Gopal Rai.

Initially, the decision to close Delhi Schools, Colleges for offline classes came after the Supreme Court of India had expressed its concerns over high pollution levels and exposing school-going children to dangerous air quality index. As a result, the court had suggested imposing a two-day lockdown in the city. Not only Delhi but schools and colleges at various parts of NCR were also closed due to pollution.
