A fire broke out in the Rajagopuram (temple tower) of Badrakali Amman temple at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire has been doused.

The tower was undergoing renovation work and hence, it was covered with a wooden frame. Video of the incident showed the temple tower covered in flames.

Devotees saw fire on the gopuram and alerted the temple authorities. Two fire trucks were brought in and the fire was extinguished.

A preliminary investigation revealed that crackers that were burst as a part of a wedding procession caused the fire. The Sivakasi Police has registered a case and further investigation is underway.
