Google hosted its Google for India 2022 event virtually. The search giant has announced features for Google Pay, Google Search. Along with the features, Google also announced the launch of 100,000 scholarships for Google Career Certificates in collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation, Tata STRIVE, and SafeEducate. Google said that these organisations will identify underserved learners across the country for a free enrollment to a Google Career Certificate of their choice.

Google will provide certificates via Coursera for IT Support, IT Automation, Project Management, Data Analytics and UX Design. Recognizing the importance of connecting jobseekers with employers who have an ongoing demand for these skills, Google has also joined hands with an initial set of companies that recognize the certificates. Google also shared the list of companies that will recognise the certificates offered by the company. The list includes Google India, Accenture in India, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Genpact, Times Internet, and Better.com will recognize the certificates

Speaking at the event, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in a virtual message said “We believe that to have a trillion-dollar economy, it is important to focus on skilling and talent development and the entire ecosystem of human resourcing and capabilities that India needs to be a significant digital economy player in the world.”

“I am pleased with Google’s focus on driving India first launches and the progress that Google has made on delivering on their promises. I’m also happy to see the launch of the app scale Academy by Google and my ministry. A great example of government and industry can work together to power the growth of local businesses. I’m hopeful and confident that Google’s mentorship through this initiative will help selected startups emerge stronger in this post co COVID,” he added.

Apart from this, Google also announces Hinglish support for Google Pay app in India. It would be the first app in India to get support for Hinglish, which is the commonly used “language in India”. With Hinglish as a language, users will be able to easily navigate the app in the language of their preference. This would help attract more users towards the app.

Google Pay has also added another split the bill feature to the app. As the name suggests, the Bill Split feature would allow a group of people at a restaurant or anywhere to split the bill. The users can pay their share simply by turning the bill split mode on the Google Pay app.
