• Karnataka Educational Institutions have been advised to adopt hybrid mode of learning.

• The decision has been announced as the state is witnessing rising COVID cases and is also fearing the news of new variant, Omicron.

• The Institutes have also been asked to postpone all social and cultural events for at least 2 months.

Karnataka Educational Institutions have been advised to adopt hybrid way of learning and teaching recently. The decision has been taken as the state tries to tackle the fear of new coronavirus variant, Omicron amid rising COVID clusters.  

Karnataka Educational Institutions, both schools and colleges were asked to implement this order after a COVID-19 review meeting was held by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Further, the order instructed all students and staff of educational institutions to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.  

The order also said that all social and cultural events that warranted the physical attendance of people, must be either cancelled or postponed for at least 2 months. With this, it must be ensured that majority of activities are carried out through virtual mode.  

The official order read, “All social and cultural events in educational institutions may be postponed for two months. Conferences, seminars, academic events, etc. in educational institutions, wherever possible, may be postponed. Alternatively, it could be conducted in hybrid mode i.e., with minimal physical attendance and with more persons attending through virtual mode.” 

Karnataka schools, colleges recently started experiencing a relaxation in COVID-19 curbs. Educational Institutions were allowed to reopen in a phased manner after being shut for over a year. With the news of new variant Omicron coming, states are trying to increase curbs so that any possible spread of infection can be avoided. As of now, no case of the new variant have been reported in India.

Karnataka Schools had also reopened for primary classes in November, 2021. Attendance was not made compulsory and the option of continuing with online classes was also available. Keep a check here for Karnataka News related to educational institutions.
