Maharashtra has announced a Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to First Year Junior College (FYJC) in this academic year. The state took this call as the class 10 board exams had been cancelled and an alternative way of admissions to FYJC had to be explored. This exam will be conducted for students of all Boards (State Boards, CBSE, CISCE, All International Boards, etc.)

The CET for FYJC admissions will be an objective type of paper, based on class 10 syllabus. The question paper will have questions of 25 marks each on English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences. The exam, which will last for two hours, will be based on an O.M.R and will be taken offline.

However, the CET is only an optional exam for the FYJC admissions. Students who wish to appear for it, would get admissions in FYJC based on the merit score in CET. While those who choose not to appear for it, will get admissions based on the merit of their Secondar School Certificate (SSC) results. The government of Maharashtra had previously announced the assessment criteria for SSC results.

This exam is expected to be conducted in last week of July or first week of August, after the class 10 results are announced. State Board students who had already paid the examination fees for class 10 board exams will not have to pay the fee for this exam.

According to the official notice, the students who have appeared in the CET will be given priority in all junior colleges. In the first phase of FYJC admissions the students who have appeared for CET will get admissions on the basis of their merit score in it. After the admissions of such students, the remaining vacancies in FYJC will be open to the students who have not appeared for the CET.
