Ajay Devgn is known for his many spectacular performances, especially in action thrillers. However, Baadshaho turned out to be a huge disappointment for his fans. His character in the film reminds us again and again of ‘chaar din ki zindagi’. We took the advice and concluded that life is too short to waste three long hours on Baadshaho. On Wahiyat Wednesday, we tell you why we think so.

DON’T GET FOOLED BY THE WINDOW DRESSING IN BAADSHAHO

Baadshaho was director Milan Luthria’s fourth film with Ajay Devgn. If you have watched some of Milan Luthria’s films, you can tell Rajasthan happens to be his favourite location. He showed his love for the Land of Maharajas in Baadshaho too. But, it didn’t seem to work out this time, as the setup of the Emergency period and a few other elements didn’t seem realistic, and was just a window dressing.

BAADSHAHO WAS A FAILED ATTEMPT TO THRIVE SOLELY ON STYLE

Baadshaho is the story of a young Rajput queen Gitanjali Devi (Ileana D’Cruz), who earned the wrath of a Sanjay Gandhi’s lookalike. She turns towards her brooding personal security in-charge Bhawani Singh (Ajay Devgn) for help, as she is not one to go down without a fight. Along with gun-crazy men, scheming and attractive women, the film suddenly throws in an item number featuring Sunny Leone.

The fictional tale is set in a real historical context. But, after spending almost three hours watching this film, you realise it is only a gleeful exaggeration of the Emergency period in India. In a nutshell, Baadshaho felt more like a meaningless banter that whipped up a whole lot of dust to no real avail.

ILEANA D’CRUZ AND ESHA GUPTA WERE MERE MANNEQUINS

While watching the film, you realise that Ileana D’Cruz and Esha Gupta got short shrift. Not only in terms of screen timing but also what the plot permits them to be. It would not be completely wrong to say that they were the pretty mannequins and just as lifeless.

BAADSHAHO HAS NO CLIMAX

Let’s say you somehow enjoyed watching a tale based on a Rajputana queen and her gold. But, towards the end, you discover that the film has no climax. It ends just like that in the middle of nowhere after a fight scene. Seriously! After peeping behind at the glossy curtain for so long, you only get an overcooked but terribly bland curry named Baadshaho.

Baadshaho is an action-adventure film that was released in 2017. Helmed Milan Luthria, the Ajay Devgn-starrer can be watched on Netflix and Disney+Hotstar.
