HIGHLIGHTS

  • Novak Djokovic beat Ricardas Berankis in straight sets in his 3rd round match
  • Diego Schwartzman also stormed in the 4th round with 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win
  • Djokovic will face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the 4th round

World number one Novak Djokovic stormed into the fourth round of French Open 2021 with a dominant 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 third-round win over 93rd-ranked Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Serbian ace came into the match with a 3-0 head-to-head record against 30-year-old Berankis, who had never won a set in their previous meetings, and put in a clinical show on Philippe Chatrier court to stay on course for a 19th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic broke his opponent’s serve six times in the match and such was his domination that he did not face a single breakpoint on his own on the way to the fourth round at Roland Garros for the 12th consecutive year.

The 2016 champion, who hit 30 winners against 18 unforced errors, hasn’t lost a set yet in his first three matches and will next face 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti (ranked 76th), who defeated fellow Italian Marco Cecchinato 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Diego Schwartzman floors Philipp Kohlschreiber

Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman experienced little hiccups in his 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber on Saturday to reach the Roland Garros fourth round.

The Argentine 10th seed, who last year reached the last-four stage, struck 24 winners and won 77 per cent of his first-service points for victory in just 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Schwartzman will next face another German, Jan-Lennard Struff, who overcame Next Gen ATP Spanish qualifier Carlos Alcaraz in the third round. Schwartzman now holds a 15-10 record this year and won the Argentina Open title in March to become the first homegrown champion at the ATP 250 event since David Nalbandian in 2008
