The Assam government has finally given the appointment letter of a government job to Pinky Karmakar, India’s torchbearer at the 2012 London Olympics.

The 26-year-old from Assam’s Dibrugarh district has been working as a daily wage labourer in a tea garden.

Assam Labour minister Sanjoy Kishan on Sunday gave the appointment letter of a government job to Pinky Karmakar during a programme held at Borborooah tea garden in Dibrugarh district.

The Assam Labour minister said that, following a directive of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, he handed over the appointment letter of Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organization to Pinky Karmakar.

Sanjoy Kishan tweeted “Following the instructions of HCM Dr. @himantabiswa sir today i handed over the appointment letter of Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organization to Pinky Karmakar who represented India as the Olympic torchbearer at the London Olympics, 2012.”

Aajtak/India Today TV had carried Pinky’s hardship life story as how she was spending her life along with her family without any support from the government in the past nine years.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met Pinky Karmakar and promised her to help with all she needs.
