Apple on Monday launched the new MacBook Pro at the Apple Unleashed event. The big deal about the new MacBook Pro laptops are their screen sizes and the new Apple-made processors called M1 Pro and the M1 Max. Apple says that its M1 Pro and the M1 Max are better than anything else available in the market from companies like Intel and AMD.

The M1 Pro, built using a 5nm chipset, supports up to 32GB RAM. There is a 10-core CPU — 8 high performance and 2 power efficient — and a 16-core GPU. The M1 Max supports up to 64GB RAM, 32-core GPU. The CPU part contains a 10-core chip. Both also feature a unified memory system that Apple introduced earlier with the M1 as well as now supports more IO ports (more USB ports).

Apple says that with the M1 Pro and the M1 Max, the new MacBook Pro laptops are the fastest it has ever created. “These are the most powerful MacBooks we have ever built,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said while announcing the new MacBook Pro laptops.

The other big deal is the screen size and redesign of the new MacBook Pro. The new MacBook Pro comes in two sizes: 14-inch screen and 16-inch screen. The new MacBook Pro laptops also have incredibly thin bezels, along with a notch like that of the iPhone 13 where Apple hides the webcam. Talking of webcam, it now supports FullHD (1080P) resolution.

Also, the display technology has been changed. The displays in the MacBook Pro 14-inch and the MacBook Pro 16-inch use Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits of peak brightness and around 1000 nits of sustained brightness. The screens on both MacBook Pro laptops also feature 120Hz display and support P3 wide color gamut.

Given that Apple is calling the display on the new MacBook Pro Liquid Retina XDR, it is safe to say it uses miniLED technology that Apple first used on the 12.9-inch iPad. The 14-inch MacBook Pro screen has a resolution of 3024 X 1964 pixels while the 16-inch display can show 3456 X 2234 pixels.

Apart from taking an opportunity to redesign the MacBook Pro, Apple has also taken this opportunity to make some nifty changes to its pro laptops. They now come with more ports, including an HDMI port and SD card reader. Also, the TouchBar is now gone and the function keys make a comeback, along with a new MagSafe connector.

The battery life of the new MacBook Pro is also better, with the top of the line 16-inch MacBook Pro offering a whopping 21 hours of battery life while playing videos. Even the audio system has been given an upgrade in both laptops, with the sound output now through six speakers. The headphone jack in the new MacBook Pro supports high-fidelity audio output.
