On Wednesday WHO released the latest weekly pandemic report . It reported that new covid cases remained stable while in the last week death cases fell by 9%. In last week there were more than 14,000 covid death cases and around 7 million new infections. There is a 30% increase of cases in Western Pacific while a 46% drop rate in Africa. In Middle East and America also cases fell by more than 20%. Dropping rates in America, Europe and Africa are 10% , 15% and 70% respectively. The major one in publicly available virus database is omicron subvariant BA.5 which accounts for nearly 70% of all virus sequences. The other omicron subvariants, including BA.4 and BA.2, is not that active comparing BA.5 variant. Since most countries have relaxed pandemic controls their testing, surveillance and sequencing efforts have been dropped. The tourist island of Hainan & Tibet have been spotted with covid – 19 cases so China has imposed new restrictions from this week. Many places are shutdown by the Chinese government . They are the beach resort Sanya, capital of Hainan – Haikou and traditional home of Dalai Lama – Lhasa’s Potala Palace . In a spot 80,000 tourists were required to test negative five times within a week before being allowed to leave. It took place in Sanya earlier this week and so they were stranded.
