The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have kept the prices of petrol and diesel unchanged on Monday, November 29, 2021, marking stability in fuel rates for 25 consecutive days.

Earlier on November 4, the government had slashed excise duty on petrol and diesel to bring rates slightly down from record-high levels.

Currently, the cost of one litre of petrol in Delhi stands at Rs 103.97 and that of diesel at Rs 86.67 per litre. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices have remained static at Rs 109.98 per litre and Rs 94.14 per litre, respectively.

Similarly, the prices of petrol and diesel remained unaltered in Chennai and stood at Rs 101.40 and Rs 91.43 per litre, respectively. On the other hand, people have to pay Rs 104.67 for one litre of petrol and Rs 89.79 for one litre of diesel in Kolkata.

Fuel rates in other Indian cities:

Among the metro cities, fuel rates are the highest in Mumbai. The rates vary across the states due to value-added tax or VAT.

Fuel rates are the cheapest in Port Blair, where one litre of petrol and diesel costs Rs 82.96 and Rs 77.13, respectively. In Bhopal, petrol is being retailed at Rs 107.23 per litre and a litre of diesel at Rs 90.87.

In Bihar’s Patna, a litre of petrol and diesel costs Rs 105.92 and Rs 91.09 respectively.

The prices of petrol and diesel vary from state to state and also in cities, depending on the incidence of local taxes like Value Added Tax (VAT) and freight charges. Apart from this, the central government charges an excise duty on petrol and diesel.

Fuel prices are revised by OMCs like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum based on international prices in the preceding 15 days and foreign stock exchanges.
