Fuel prices have maintained stability across the country as there has been no change in prices of petrol and diesel on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Meanwhile, there has been a fall in the prices of crude oil at the international level. Global crude oil has once again reached below $ 83 per barrel, indicating weakness in the global crude oil trade.

As of now, the price of petrol in Delhi stands at Rs 103.97 and one litre of diesel is retailing at Rs 86.67. In India’s financial hub, Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs. 109.98 per litre, whereas diesel is being sold at Rs. 94.14 per litre, which is the highest among all the metro cities.

Similarly, the prices of petrol and diesel remained unaltered in Chennai and stood at Rs 101.40 and Rs 91.43 per litre, respectively. On the other hand, in Kolkata, people have to shell out Rs 104.67 for one litre of petrol and Rs 89.79 for one litre of diesel.

It may be noted that petrol is still retailing above Rs 100 per litre in all the metro cities despite recent cuts in prices. Notably, fuel prices were last revised on November 4, 2021, when the central government slashed duties to provide relief to consumers from all-time high fuel rates.

Ashok Gehlot calls for a meeting on fuel prices in Rajasthan

Despite the recent cut in excise duty, fuel prices in Rajasthan are still at a record high. However, the prices of petrol and diesel are expected to come down soon in the state as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called for a meeting of the Cabinet and the Council of Ministers on November 16. It is expected that the government can consider the issue of reducing the price of petrol-diesel.

Petrol and Diesel prices in major Indian cities:

CITYPETROL (PER LITRE)DIESEL (PER LITRE)
NEW DELHIRs 103.97Rs 86.67
MUMBAIRs 109.98Rs 94.14
CHENNAIRs 101.40Rs 91.52
KOLKATARs 104.67Rs 89.79
BENGALURURs 100.58Rs 85.01

In India, petrol and diesel prices depend on various factors like demand for fuel, valuation of INR against USD, consumption ratio of refineries and more. The fuel prices are revised by the oil marketing companies such as Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, and Hindustan Petroleum based on international prices as well.

In addition to this, fuel rates differ from state to state due to value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. Notably, Bhopal and Jaipur are the two cities that levy higher VAT on fuel as compared to other cities and states.
