The month of September is set to be filled with major smartphone launches from technology giants. Apple and Samsung had already been hinted at holding their launch events in the month to unveil the iPhone 13 series and the Galaxy S21 FE respectively. It is now being tipped that Google will also launch its Pixel 6 series right about the same time.

Google will introduce its new line of flagship smartphones later this month. A source on Weibo now hints at this launch date to be September 13. If so, the company might be stealing the thunder from Apple for its iPhone 13 launch that is tipped to take place on September 14.

The speculation has been made by tipster Bald Panda in a recent post on Weibo. As noted by NotebookCheck, the tipster has a strong record of such leaks around smartphones. Though it is interesting that the tip comes from China, as Google does not really sell the Pixel devices in the country.

Google has radically redesigned its Pixel phones this time around and will surely be launching them as a strong contender to the flagships from the likes of Apple and Samsung. The launch date by the company, if it stands as predicted, will be a strong deterrent to the buzz around the new iPhones, since both devices are poised to be major contenders in the premium smartphone segment.

Google will be doing this with a new Tensor chipset that it has produced in-house. Both the Pixel 6 and the iPhone 13 series will thus have their manufacturer’s own chipsets, a feat that not many smartphones can boast of. The integration of the Tensor SoC with system-level optimisations through the Android 12, which will likely rollout with the new Pixel phones, will be a major contest for Apple’s new iPhones to take on.

It will thus be important as to which of the smartphones launches first and is available in the market prior to the other. With Pixel 6’s majorly improved camera module, new chipset and a much more appealing design than before, buyers of a premium phone might be inclined to purchase the Pixel 6 Pro or the Pixel 6. Google is further expected to sweeten the deal with its unlimited cloud storage offering and other such bundled offers with the Pixel 6 lineup. Whether this will be enough for the Pixel 6 series to stand tall with the iPhone 13 lineup in the international markets, only time will tell.
