Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, November 30, ruled out an apology by the 12 Opposition MPs suspended from Rajya Sabha.

Twelve Opposition MPs were suspended on Monday from the Rajya Sabha for the rest of the Winter Session on account of ‘unruly behaviour’ during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Earlier on Tuesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government would be open to revoking the suspension of the MPs if they apologised to the Rajya Sabha chairman.

Reacting to this, Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “Apology for what? Raising the people’s issues in Parliament? Never!”

RJD MP Manoj Jha, too, said that there was no question of an apology. said, “Apology for what? This move has no parallel in the history of parliamentary democracy and is entirely undemocratic, unlawful, and unconstitutional. We have requested LoP to speak with the government. If avenue is not found, then we should think of boycotting the entire session,” he said.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, too, dismissed an apology, saying, “The government is trying to silence the voices of the Opposition. No question arises to offer apology.”
