The Delhi Crime Branch busted a gang involved in robberies, kidnapping and carjacking cases and arrested two wanted criminals from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The two hi-tech robbers, identified as Ravi Kumar and Swet Singh aka Bunty Singh, were arrested from Gopalpur in Bihar and Kushinagar in UP, respectively.

The operation was conducted by the team of Inspector Pankaj Arora under the supervision of ACP Raj Kumar Saha, Special Investigation Unit-I, Crime Branch, Delhi. A cash reward to the tune of Rs 25,000 each was declared for effecting the arrests of the accused by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi.

In the light of rising cases of robbing of vehicles in Delhi, a special drive has been launched to control this menace and, in furtherance, staff has been directed to focus and lay stress on such types of crimes. In the recent past, incidents of such robberies took place in a series of different parts of Delhi.

Accused arrested from UP and Bihar

On September 30 at 9.30AM, Nafe Singh, who is employed as a driver with a businessman, parked his car (Hyundai Creta) with registration No. HR-06AX-3559 near Ambedkar Bhawan, Sector 16, Rohini, Delhi. He was having a short nap inside the car. At around 2.30PM, two individuals, one from the driver’s side and another from the conductor’s side, forcibly entered into the vehicle and confined him.

The individual, who came in from the conductor’s side, pointed a gun at him and asked him not to shout or else he would be shot. The robbers put the complainant on the back seat of the vehicle. The said individuals knocked him down on the back seat and muffled his face with a cloth.

Two more individuals entered the vehicle one by one from both the rear seat doors. Thereafter, they started the car and after sometime, dropped the complainant on the wide road opposite Police Station in Begumpur. The individuals took the SIM out of the complainant’s mobile phone.

Keeping in view the gravity of the offence, Pankaj Arora, was given the task to work on it. Accordingly, surveillance was mounted. Information was gathered and further developed by the Crime Branch. With the help of surveillance, the team got some vital information about the persons involved in the matter.

After fixing the identity of the persons involved in the present crime, through surveillance, the location of the accused persons was found to be near the border of UP and Bihar. Accordingly, the team was sent there where it worked relentlessly. Finally, the joint professional efforts (surveillance and local enquires) of the team bore fruit. During the intervening nights of December 7 and 8, 2021, accused Ravi Kumar was arrested from Gopalganj, Bihar and accused Swet Singh from Kushinagar, UP.

Gang’s modus operandi

On August 8, 2021, complainant Ajay Kumar Raj, stopped his vehicle (Toyota Innova) just 250 meters before the red light of Loha Mandi, Naraina to relax. In the meanwhile, four individuals appeared and overpowered him at gunpoint, forcibly entered the vehicle and dragged him to the back seat. When the complainant tried to shout, one of the individuals put a cloth into his mouth.

They robbed Rs 25,000 from the complainant, which was his monthly salary. After a 3040 minute drive, these individuals threw the complainant at a stranded place in Rani Bagh and fled from the spot with his vehicle Toyota Innova, leaving his mobile with him without a SIM.

On October 15, complainant Ram Pal parked his vehicle (Toyota Innova) on the service road of Sector 10, Rohini and was sitting in the vehicle waiting for his employer. In the meanwhile, four individuals forcibly entered the vehicle and overpowered him at gunpoint.

They started the vehicle and when he tried to shout, the individuals sitting on the rear seats started beating him. After a short drive, the individuals stopped the vehicle in the area of Begumpur and, after dropping him there, fled from the spot with the vehicle and mobile phone.

Duo wanted to earn money in short span of time


The accused confessed to the crime that they used to rob only SUVs and after robbing the SUVs, they sold the same in Bihar by changing the registration and chassis numbers of these robbed vehicles. They further disclosed that there is a great demand for such SUVs in Bihar.

The accused, Ravi Kumar, is a local resident of District Siwan, Bihar and had pursued a one-year diploma course in Health and Safety Environment from Delhi Institute of Fire Safety, Dwarka. Swet Singh aka Bunty, is a local resident of District Siwan, Bihar and is a science graduate (B.Sc.) from Jai Prakash University, Chhapra, Bihar. He is preparing for an examination held by the Indian Army. Both of them entered into this illegal trade to earn easy money as they were unemployed.


Both the accused were produced before Rohini Court, Delhi, from where custody of the accused duo was taken by the Investigating Officer of Police Station K.N. Katju Marg, Delhi.
