Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev, who alleged that her car was attacked by BJP workers last month, has hit out at Tripura Police after the latter stated that the video footage of the incident is not of much help in identifying the suspects. She also took a swipe at CM Biplab Deb and asked him to “draft better tweets for the police”.

A statement released by Tripura Police read, “On behalf of the complainant (Sushmita Dev), a small video footage of the alleged incident and names of 04 suspects without their complete details were provided. The video footage does not help much in the identification of suspects.”

Responding to the above statement, TMC MP Sushmita Dev said, “Next attack I will try to take longer videos and ask my attackers for their address, phone numbers as they beat us and break our cars. Mamun khans and Surjya Sarkars fatal injuries are not serious offences for Tripura Police.”

In the statement, the Tripura Police said that the four suspects have “strong grounds to suggest that they were not present near the P.O. at the relevant time”.

“There seems to be a deliberate attempt on the part of the complainant to implicate persons in the case, put pressure on investigating duty which is not desirable,“ Tripura Police added.

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?

Last month, TMC leader Sushmita Dev was campaigning in a car for the ‘Tripurar Jonno Trinamool’ drive when her car was allegedly attacked by BJP workers.

Sushmita Dev sustained physical injuries in the attack and was rushed to the ILS Hospitals in Agartala for treatment. She was later taken to the Amtuli Police Station in West Tripura district where she lodged a complaint with the police.

Trinamool Congress claimed that the party’s vehicles that were being used for the Tripura campaign were also vandalised in the attack.
