The Chief Guest for the 2024 Republic Day Celebrations to be held next month would be French President Emmanuel Macron . Even US President Joe Biden has been invited but he will not be able to attend the events. Many French leaders have already come as chief guest for India’s Republic Day programmes. President Macron is the 6th one in this list. Former Presidents François Hollande,Nicolas Sarkozy, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac have all graced the events between 1976 – 2016. It’s been more than three decades since they have been coming to India. In July for the Bastille Day ( French National Day) celebrations Modi was in Paris as a guest of honour. Macron has visited India before for the G20 Summit hosted by India in September. After the meeting Modi said it was a productive one and he is looking forward to ensuring India-France relations scale new heights of progress. In 2023 India’s Republic Day parade had Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as the chief guest. Except for 2021 and 2022 , the other years India had foreign Nationals for the Republic Day parade. Due to Covid these two years had no one being invited.
