Five people are feared to have been killed in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday night after a speeding truck hit an autorickshaw. Due to the impact, the auto was flung into the air and it fell into a flooded stream. District administration officials fear that at least 5 passengers drowned in the accident. A search-and-rescue operation has been launched.

The autorickshaw, carrying 12 passengers, was crossing a bridge over a river when it was hit by the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

All the passengers were from Atmakur in Nellore district and were returning home after offering prayers at Sangameswaram Swamy temple.

Police, NDRF, and firefighting teams were able to rescue seven passengers while a search is on to locate the missing people.
